I found this little treasure while browsing thinkgeek.com. The TV-B-Gone Universal Remote Control Keychain will turn off just about any television on the market. The website reveals a few reasons this little buggah could come in handy:
“Well, without revealing too much of our devious nature we can think of a few things. Imagine sports bars or annoying talking head shows that appear on monitors at the airport. Add to that your own creativity and we’re pretty sure you’ll come up with some ideas.”
Based on the reviews at amazon.com, TV-B-Gone does exactly what it’s supposed to do and turns off most TV’s in less than 11 seconds.

TV Gadgets: Giant-Comical-Oversized Universal Remote Control

Accept no substitutes: So I bought a giant universal remote control from Walgreens for about $10. It’s great because it’s super hard to lose, and I love holding it in one hand while raising my pointy finger high, then swooping down to push the ginormous buttons with an over exaggerated motion.

Best of all, after a whole week the novelty hasn’t worn off yet. In fact, the only complaint I have is that I can’t program it to my DVR. You can program this bad boy to 3 things; the TV, VCR, and DVD player, so I have it connected to Keri’s TV which is just a TV with a DVD player. I could use it on mine and use my normal controller for the DVR, but she seems to have grown attached to it.

It also makes a pretty good cuddle partner. I’ve walked in a couple times when Keri has somehow wrapped herself around it while watching tv. Apparently “oversized remote” provides a false sense of security. But I suppose a false sense of security is better than none.

As stupid as this gadget seems, I recommend it if for nothing else as a really decent conversational piece.
