Although I had some memories about the series finale of The X-Files, I couldn’t remember many details. I knew the last episode found Mulder on trial for something. I also remembered the moment when Scully and Mulder were reunited while he was held captive. That kiss! That kiss! I had waited years for THAT KISS. But how did it all end? And more importantly what did the last episode tell me that I need to know about the movie? So I hit the magic google button of knowledge (Yes I am feeling lucky!) and now I know.

As stated earlier we do find Mulder on trial but its pretty much a sham trial. Those who orchestrated the faux trail have no other plans except to sentence him to death. A variety of people testify on his behalf but to no avail. Fox is sentenced to death. All hope is lost! But wait the FBI director (who we previously thought was a baddie) helps Fox escape. Mulder escapes and is reunited with Scully. Those helping inform him to go North to get out of the country. Fox , of course, doesn’t listen and goes south to ’see a man about the truth’. Who is that man? Its CSM! He’s hanging out in some old mayanesque ruins. Cigarette Smoking Man tells Mulder and Scully the colonization (when aliens are going to come and take over the world) is going to happen and nothing can be done to stop it. 2012 is coming for us all. Mulder and Scully leaves as CSM is finally killed by a huge rocket. Outside the baddies have tracked down Mulder and Scully but friends also show up to help Fox and Dana. A shootout ensues and then a super solider (who are sort’ve this man/alien hybrid thing that seemingly can’t be killed) shows up and everyone is like “aww shit! what we gonna do now? halp!” But ,like CSM has told us moments ago, there is something in these soil ruin thingies that don’t agree with the super soldiers. Ya know like old people and pizza after 5pm. The soldier takes a step onto the grounds and blows up. Yay! still there are others after our lovely two and so they flee. They flee to a motel! Fox and Dana are together but the inevitable invasion is coming and this dampens things. They are both solemn as they think about the end of the mankind. What is there to say?

SCULLY: You've always said that you want to believe. But believe in what, Mulder? If this is the truth that you've been looking for, then what is left to believe in?

MULDER: I want to believe that the dead are not lost to us. That they speak to us as part of something greater than us — greater than any alien force. And if you and I are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen to what's speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves.

SCULLY: Then we believe the same thing.

MULDER: Maybe there's hope.

Ever so often you think about an old TV show and search your mind for how it all ended. I was scanning channels the other day when I stumbled on “ALF”. You remember Alf right? kinda? Most likely you do. Alf was an extraterrestrial stranded on earth. He ended up living with a family, having zany adventures and nearly eating cats on a weekly basis. I watched Alf when I was younger yet I couldn’t remember how it ended. A handy dandy search later now I actually do. The final episode of Alf finds him in the ETesque spot of finally getting/receiving a signal from his family and trying to get home. We come so close to this appropriate and final end of the show when FBI agents rush in to take ALF hostage then the show ends. Can you believe that? That was the end. Due to a variety of reasons Alf was never brought back on air. Although there was a movie it did not continue this story line and we are left with the thought that Alf was sliced open and studied. The hope is that perhaps an army of Earth cats rescue Alf and take him to his family so they can rid the world of his cat eating menace thus Alf lives happily ever after. Though he’s probably still in Roswell to this day. TV movie anyone? Surely the actors who , as gossip says, hated working with him is willing to work with a lovable puppet once more. No? Ahh well on the slab in Roswell it is for Alf.
