First, the press releases;

Sons of Anarchy is an adrenalized, darkly humorous drama exploring a notorious outlaw motorcycle club’s intent on protecting their simple, sheltered town of Charming, Calif. from advancing drug dealers and local corporate developers. It is also a family saga seen through the eyes of Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) whose love for the brotherhood comes into direct conflict with his growing apprehension regarding the club’s lawlessness. Katey Sagal stars as his force-of-nature mother who, along with the club’s president, Jax’s stepfather, has her own ideas about the direction of the Sons of Anarchy. Additional co-stars include Drea de Matteo and Maggie Siff.

Now this is more like it! We already knew of Ron Pearlman’s involvement, but I had somehow missed Katey Sagal in the ads, and I don’t believe they shown Drea De Matteo either. Both are very watchable actresses, and if given strong rolesI’m sure they’ll be a great reason to watch the show. The press release also hints more about the storyline that will unwind in the 13 episodes. I like the idea of a motorcycle gang being guardian angels of their town, and obviously the confrontations between Sagal, Pearlman, and Jax will also heavily factor into the show. The fact that it is executive produced by Kurt Sutter, who created FX’s other heavy hitter, The Shield automatically gives it some weight. No doubt FX is also hoping the same.

I’m still not one hundred percent sold on the show though. As you no doubt noticed, the press release makes mention of it being a “darkly humorous drama”, and that’s a fine line to try to walk. So far, the promos don’t really show off any kind of humorous side. If anything they lean towards the other end of the spectrum, being serious and talking about the freedoms of men. That has the possibility of getting boring real quick. I also hope that they don’t pair this with The Shield. I can see the thought behind doing that, as the viewers of that show would probably stick around to watch a similar show, but I can’t help that that sort of programming might just prove to be too much. I actually rather see It’s Always Sunny in Phidadelphia(my personal fave FX show) be the lead in.

With a September release date, no doubt we’ll start hearing more and more about this show soon enough. We’ll keep you updated as we get more news.

I think one of the main’s character has a brother in law enforcement. Or maybe it’s just a friend? There’s a clip of the brother/friend riding next to the biker and telling him he could only look away for so long, so there’s probably going to be tension there.

The new promos have shown Ron Pearlman, which I’m surprised they didn’t advertised sooner. Also, in this new promo they show some more of the family life of the main protagonist..it looks like his father started the Sons of Anarchy club, and it has spiraled down since his death. And finally, we have an issue with some guns. Have they gone missing? Are they being smuggled? I don’t know.

So that’s all I got on this show. I actually don’t know if the ambiguity makes me want to see the show more or less.
