Nicholas [9/10]

Last nights HIMYM was great. A mixed bag of great. I adore Sarah Chalke (Elliot/Blonde Doctor from Scrubs) so it’s a given that I would like this episode…a lot. The show aired around a lot of hype over Britney Spears’ guest spot which brought in a lot of new viewers. The writers focused on Ted and his quest to find his future wife, so that new viewers would catch on to the premise. The rest of the cast was in the background for the show, but everyone got to show off a bit of their personality. I especially liked the tag ending when Barney finally got to shine by trying to trick the receptionist into bed. (oh Barney).

Hopefully this whole Britney on HIMYM thing will do it’s job and bring in more viewers/fans to the show. I just can’t help but be reminded of the 2 part Grey’s Anatomy bomb episode guest starring Cristina Ricci after the Super bowl a few years ago. It brought in a ton of new viewers, but to keep those viewers the show became so Soap Opera-ee and washed out that it lost many of it’s original viewers (including me) who felt alienated from their former awesome, but little known show.

I don’t believe, or don’t want to believe the same thing could happen to How I Met Your Mother, but like it or not, this business is about money, not how great a TV show is or isn’t (but that’s for another post i suppose).

I give this episode 9 out of 10 Marshall Slaps for 3 reasons. 1. The caterpillar tattoo joke 2. Sarah Chalke and 3. The really awesome two minute date at the end which reminded me i have Manos The Hands of Fate (MST3K edition) on my computer that I haven’t watched yet. Thanks HIMYM!

Matthew [10/10]

I cheered and laughed more through Ten Sessions more than most episodes of HIMYM, which says a lot with it being my favorite and only sitcom style show. An appearance by one of our favorite “Scrubs” doctors greatly overshadowed the tiny Britney Spears part hyped so much by CBS. Barney and Marshall’s attempts at catching peak at the woman Ted was trying to win were wildly entertaining and Ted’s two minute date extravaganza was played perfectly. I didn’t find it cheesy at all, in fact I found it one of the sweetest moments in television ever and almost cried. I didn’t. I’m a guy and all. 10 unfortunate circumstances out of 10. Okay it was between that and “10 sessions out of 10.”

Bunnyfear [7/10]

Britney Gate! Britney Gate! Britney Gate! OMG Did you hear what she did last? OMG She…
wait, wait wrong blog. Britney did however appear on last nights episode of How I met your mother. A cute show that brings out the romantic in all of us. Lets get this out of the way. Anyone who said Britney was “pretty good” or “was actually very good” or seemed to be astonished at this is a bit stupid. Of course she was good. If it was going to be a stilted cameo like we got used to on Will & Grace then I can’t quite see why the moment was hyped. However I will be happy to admit that I was really quite taken aback at how cute the role fit her. She was really funny though I’m sure anyone could have been in the role of a obessissive/slightly nerdy and ultimately kinda horny receptionist. Britney played a receptionist by the name of ABby. She meets Ted who is interested in Stellllaaaaa played by Sarah Chalke. The episode centered around Ted working to get Stella to say yes to a date him. She was his tatoo removal doctor and he only had 10 session with her in which to turn her initial “no” into “yes”. She did say yes but only for a quick two minute date that even if you found it a bit too cheesy, was awesome for mentioning Manos The Hands of Fate. No mention of HIMYM can be complete without mentioning Barney who was quite lege-cool in the end for being the one to bed Abby–dary.

Note to tv producers: It takes more than nostalgia to drive viewers to your show. The idea of seeing Knight Rider *ahem* Ride again wasn’t quite something I was expecting however when I heard about the movie/tv show I became somewhat excited. At the very least I wondered how or if they’d revamp the theme song. They did revamp it and I believe the new song worked.

NBC spent a few weeks letting us know that an icon would soon be reborn. Part of the labor pains was having Gob Bluth voice Kitt. This was ,of course ,a horrible idea. I completely believe his voice was recorded then later someone realized this was a horrible idea. This unnamed saviour of Kitt then spent hours trying to replace him. Someway, somehow…(probably though the awesome power of the Bat) he was replaced with Val Kilmer. This is one of the rare good moves from the producers of Knight Rider 2008. They also proved smart in realizing the talents of Sidney Tamia Porter. I believe you can put her in most anything and she’ll be a perfect supporting member. I’ll also state that seeing chracter actor Bruce Davison seems apropro as well. He fits in well with the idea of the show.

I’m almost sad to say that I don’t think the show works. They had horrible cliches that would turn almost anyone off. Must the bad guy be Foreign? Is Hollywood so sure the baddie must be foreign or Americans won’t know who to root for? In a society that watches CSI and its clones on a weekly basis please believe we all realize that even our neighbors can very much be the bad guy as well. Also what an insult? An American can’t plot to take over the world? Hmph! I’m pretty sure the Brain was a yank.

To think the back and forth between a snarky driver and a smarter than average car would work is also an error in judgement. The joke wore off years ago and its not really interesting. Its a bit of a double edge sword because the whole show is based on the car and you need the dialogue between them but the circumstance can’t help but offer up anything by cheesy dialogue. A brief glimpse at the quotes on IMDB makes you cringe and wish you didn’t watch the show.

K.I.T.T.: Are you a homosexual?
Mike Traceur: Oh, come on. Did you really just ask me that?

K.I.T.T.: I am incapable of happiness. But I will say that it is logical that you are here.
Mike Traceur: Yeah, I know what you mean.

If you didn’t watch the show then here’s what you missed….

Foreign dude broke into genius scientist dudes house to steal something or other
Scientist dude dies
Kitt drives away from house house in search of Scientist Dude’s daughter
Cue awesome theme song. You squeel a bit with glee
Kitt finds Scientist Dude’s Daughter
Scientist Dude’s Daughter gets caught by bad guys, They tell her that her dad dies
Kitt saves daughter, they go find Mike
Apparently scientist dude (through previous programming) entrusted Mike, who is a bit of a douche and owes some really poorly acted gangsters some money, to take care of his daughter
Mike helps daughter
Oh noes! Bad guys show up
Mikes mommy who knew Michael (Hoff) is there with Scientist dude who totally didn’t die. He had a double pretend to be him. He really IS a genius!
Daughter and Mike meet up with Dad and Mikes mom who had the sexy time with Michael (hoff) and omg Mike is Michaels kid and oh it totally makes sense
Mikes mommy is shot by bad foreign guys who are trying to get some sort’ve thingy.
Kitt is disabled as bad guys have broke the encryption (loliez hollywood love this word) and will take over him if he stays “online”
Bad guys are slightly thwarted. Mikes mom dies.
Mike tries risky move with Kitt and saves the day. Bad guys say something like they’ll never be stopped.
Mike is offered the chance to drive Kitt. He says Naaaah.
HOFF SHOWS UP! HOFF is Mikes dad and tells him that one man can change the world.
Mike is like hey will I see you again? Michael says “I hope so” which is I assume the producers way of saying they hope their show gets picked up
Mike says yes to driving Kitt
We see the team assmebled together
Mike says he wants to drive and not let Kitt drive. Oh this is so funny. They’re gonna be the ultimate odd couple aren’t they? genius writing!
Kitt asks if this is going to be a habit
Michael says yes
You question why you watched this
The end.

I have mixed feelings on the new Knight Rider show. Most of us remember the old Knight Rider fondly and we therefore want to have fuzzy fellings about this new KR. In a lot of ways, this Knight Rider lived up to it’s predecessor: they both featured bumbling henchman, a cool car, hot ladies, bad storylines and slightly subpar dialogue.

I have to admit, it was a pretty bad show. Not that I can judge the entire series on one episode, but yeah, it kind of sucked. That said, I enjoyed it. It had everything I expected out of a Knight Rider series. Kitt was really cool with his being indestructible and being able to change into any newer model mustang/color. I didn’t enjoy the constant Ford commercials, but at least the network is trying something different with it’s advertising. (it’s about time TV).

I liked Knight Rider, but it definitely has it’s work cut out for it if it wants to make it into my weekly schedule.
Overall 6.5 nanotech gasoline powered super cars out of 10

*****************************************************

Matthew [7.5/10]

Back in the 1980’s there was almost nothing more bad than “Knight Rider”. I’m not really going anywhere with this, I just wanted to use “bad” like that in a sentence just once more. New “Knight Rider” did keep my interest but the script was a little too cheesy, I’m not too sure about their choice for Mike Knight, but at least he had the bright eyes and chiseled jaw. There were many times when I suspected that must be the only reason he was chosen.

Kitt was pretty amazing I thought. At least they weren’t just updating the old series, including it as part of the history of the story. Michael Knight was Mike Knights dad and he had to leave him and his mom to answer to his higher calling years before. It’s the only solid bit I found that I loved and for that reason it was a fun ride and well worth a watch. 7.5 Mr. Feeney’s out of 10

18/30 for the new Knight Rider. We want off this ride so we can hurl.

If you haven’t watched Knight Rider then you can still catch it here on NBC.com

This week is the new show Eli Stone.

Bunnyfear [ 9.5/10 ]

I’m a fan of anything that’s a little different. I’ve always sought out the television that was as far from reality as there possible. Throw in an odd element not quite kosher with tv standards and I’m going to tune in. Disbelieve me? I watched the entire run of Baby Bob just because it was a little different. So after watching the trailer for Eli Stone I was sure that I’d be viewing the first few episodes hoping for a success. I feel I got that.

The ABC tv show, Eli Stone follows the life an attorney who begins having visions which he learns are caused by a brain tumor. This changes his life forever. Although he is seeking medical assistance from his brother, It doesn’t seem to be with the aim to stop his visions that lead him to the next case he’s lead to take. Eli quickly realized that living with these visions are changing his life for the better. They have helped him to forgive his father and to put peace to their strained relationship. His father had the same tumor though no one knew until now. They’ve helped him to change his career that would not be fulfilling in the long run and the visions have also brought him and his fiance closer together.

Now here’s the thing. Is it a musical? Is it too Viva Laughlin and Cop Rock for its own good? I don’t think so. Yes seeing a variety of people burst into a nice George Michael ditty might’ve made you think otherwise but each moment was smileworthy. I think what I like so much about Eli Stone is that it very much reminds me of Six Feet Under just lighter. Though who didn’t love the incestuous Brenda/Billy relationship and kinda hope they’d get together? I mean obviously not me as that’s just sick but for those sick folks please consider watching Eli Stone. It has many similar elements to Six Feet Under including the general basis– A man on the cusp of life being thrown for a loop when an other worldly element works to constantly change and redefine his ideals of life. Throw in visions each episode and you’ve got quite an interesting show worth watching. My only qualm would be the fact that I hate the sassy black assistant. Her character defines everything thats wrong with television. I only hope she won’t encourage him to go to church in order to cure himself then he’ll hallucinate an amazing black choir that she is the lead singer of. I have to , of course, comment on the fact that George Michael’s songs are the names of each of Eli Stone’s episodes and that this is a wonderful touch. It’s perfect timing for now older George Michael fans who loved his tunes while younger who can appreciate a character looking at his life feeling it deserves a bit of change. Thanks be to Greg Berlanti for turning his own fanship into a characterteristic that truly colors the entire show in a musically nostalgic and creatively inspiring light.

I don’t know why this show was relegated to being just a mid-season replacement because it deserves the span of a full season. I can see how people might wonder if his visions might get old but I think this character was built on the idea of evolution. The ending is already written for this show. It simply can not end with Eli Stone surviving his tumor. It will be a bitter sweet end but it will be devastatingly beautiful. I won’t miss an episode of this show because I already have faith that Eli Stone is going to be amazing.

******************************************************************************

Nicholas [ 7.5 out of 10 ]

Hack the planet!!! Hack the planet!!! You know, from Hackers…anyway, Zero Cool…I mean, Crash Override…I mean, Johnny Lee Miller plays a lawyer who receives visions accompanied by the music of George Michael. How great is that? Maybe not so great if you’re not a GM fan, but I remember being glued to the screen watching George Michael’s Faith video as a young teenager. Now that I think about it, wasn’t that an entire video of him shaking his a$$? Eh well, it’s a good song.

This episode of Eli Stone featured a boys choir from Northern California singing Freedom (by George Michael). What a treat! So Eli takes another unwinnable charity case for the good of man, asks advice from his surfer dude acupuncturist and has a really cool vision of a war in his living room while he makes sweet love to his (not so) sweet girlfiend. I wonder if this show is a novelty that will wear off someday? I’d like to think there are lots of secrets they will slowly reveal like Lost’s trail of bread crumbs (but hopefully faster than Lost). That would definitely keep me interested. Until then, Stone’s blatant use of George Michael, musical & dance numbers, & Loretta Devine (the secretary) have won me over. I hope it never gets old.

Just when I thought I’d never see Jonny Lee Miller again, BAM!, comes “Eli Stone”. I gotta say I love this intriguing bit of supernatural twist on a straight forward law show. The fantasy musical numbers at the office, Dr. Chen’s fake accent, Loretta Divine too? Man, it couldn’t have come at a better time. If it weren’t for the dry spell we’ve been
having I have no idea if I’d let it pass me by on a different more fruitful year, but I’m anxious to see what happens next and how the nextGeorge Michael song will be creatively presented. My vote is for “Father Figure” but from the end of last week it doesn’t look like another hit is in our future this time.

This has turned into a general review for the series thus far but I feel the same for both episodes… Love it. I’m afraid though, if “Eli Stone” continues during more colorful end-of-writers strike days it may get a bit washed out. After all, when you’ve been stuck in a desert for days without water, even sandy oasis water looks and tastes like fresh bottled water. Ok well hell, you get my point. I give “Eli Stone” 9 bottles of water on the wall out of 10. 7.5 out of 10

*******************************************************************
Eli Stone scores a visionquestastic 26/30. The best score a freshman drama can ever hope to earn. Tune in to Eli Stone Thursdays 10/9c on ABC. Check it out.

You won’t get to see any of that Sopranos action but whats left is One Show, Three Opinions. This week is Lost “The Beginning of the End”

Matthew [6/10]

The long awaited season four opener of “Lost” was a bit lost on me I think. I love this show, though I got into the game a little late around the last two episodes of season 1. Since then it’s been a thrill ride with this enormous and talented cast, not counting the dribble of the first half of season three. I was excited about the “two hour season premiere” until I found out the first hour was just another recap and the meat, the “good hour”, could have been outtakes from last years season finale for all that didn’t really happen. It was great to see Charlie again in some form during the “been rescued” part of the show, but I wanted something else on that besides Hurley being one of the six rescued. It just seemed like what you knew was going to happen happened and everyone just went through the motions. I am curious to see what happens to everyone else if only six survivors made it back and where they carry the show when they finally catch up to them going home, and after this bit of exposition I believe that things will be smooth sailing from here. I give the fourth season opener a slap on the wrist and a fitting 6 rescued survivors out of 10.

Nicholas [7.5/10 ]

Lost is both frustrating and awesome. I love the characters, but I almost can’t believe mainstream America would watch something so weird. Maybe it’s not as weird as I think it is, but one thing I do know is that whatever is going on with that island and the survivors of Oceanic flight can’t possibly live up to the hype and suspense that surrounds it.
After shoving Lost in our faces this week (last year’s season finale with pop up video on Wednesday, and the one hour recap on Thursday), we finally got to watch the Season premiere. It wasn’t bad. It was hard to watch rescued Hurley be so depressed and sour, but then it was refreshing to see him happy and carefree cannonballing into the ocean.
I’m really interested in this Jacob character now . When we first met him, I just thought, here’s another weird island thing we won’t have answers to for a few years. He seemed to want Hurley to come in for a cup o’ tea, or to eat him; I’m not sure which. The fact the cabin can come and go as it pleases was somehow good enough for me to get on board with the Jacob storyline. Lost frustrates me to no end, and If the characters weren’t so darn good I definitely would have given up on it a long time ago. There are still more questions to be answered, but i’m content for now. Bring on some more Lost.

Bunnyfear [8.5/10]

Let me start by saying that I have a decidedly odd relationship with Lost. Okay wait no thats not the best way to start. Let me restart by saying that I loved Veronica Mars. It was a great TV show that somehow was placed in the horrible timeslot opposite Lost. The Lost juggernaut had already snared most of the world at the point that happened. Of course I knew that Veronica Mars competing with Lost was just like David and Goliath except that David was going to get beaten severely then mocked with the Nelson Muntz laugh. Now add this to other things like the fact that its a show that fairly consistently doesn’t have any follow through. The show stumbles over itself while trying to force the audience to invest in new random characters. The show has a huge ego while trying to force us to go deeper into a mystery that seemingly will never have a satisfying payoff and lastly the show relies on quick, easy, sweeps drama. “Ooo how about we tell people this week we might kill someone?” rinse and repeat. Basically I hate Lost for a few reasons. All that being said I still watch Lost though I did quit mid third season. I caught those missed episodes on abc.com before the premiere. It’d be naive to think that didn’t hype me into really liking the first episode of this season but I do agree that Lost has rebounded admirably. Once again I come back to Lost. I’ve only tried to quit it about 42 different times. This episode looked to the future and encouraged a whole new set of questions. The main question being OMG Srsly! Why don’t they just kill Ben? That and other questions will be answered in about….oh probably never but once again I want to look into the eye of the island and see a good show.

Lost gets 8.5/10

Lost gets a respectable 22/30. We can only imagine the score they would’ve gotten if Hurley hadn’t been on screen for most of it.

Lost airs Thursdays on ABC at 9/8c

Each week we’ll watch one show and offer up three opinions. As always sometimes we’ll agree and sometimes we’ll violently disagree enough to slap the other in the face with a fish. Unfortunately you won’t get to see any of that hot fish slapping action but whats left is One Show, Three Opinions. This week is Tin Man

  Matthew [5/10]

Well all right. Tinman. What a ride that was. I can’t say I hated
it. There were points enough to keep me watching until the end. I think
that’s how I made it to the end, but now with all that said, here we
go. I was really looking forward to the “sci-fi re imagining” of the
Wizard of Oz and with an all star cast including Zooey Deschanel and
Alan Cumming (two of my favorites!) Where could they go wrong? Well
let’s see, the storytelling and script are basically my two biggest
complaints here. This could have been any original sci-fi story all
together. Maybe it was to begin with and they just threw in the Wizard
of Oz pieces to make it a more interesting story. Did anyone read this
before giving it the okay? Nothing seemed to flow naturally with this
mini-series. It’s like all the Oz references were thrown in to make it
cute whether it worked or not. I did like that DG couldn’t pronounce
“tutor” as a child, so it came out “Toto” but Toto being a backstabbing
shape shifter I couldn’t quite get into. Also if anyone else had asked
Cain to “have a heart” once more I might have deleted it from the DVR
and never looked back. Once was enough if they even had to say it at
all. Anyone with half a scarecrow brain should have known that Cain
“didn’t have a heart” by the second half. During the third episode we
learn that DG (I would go into detail how annoying “DG” and the “O Z”
were to even hear but i’m sure Bunnyfear has that covered) is a direct
descendant of Dorothy Gale herself and even visits the old farm and her
spirit as part of her quest. Probably the most imaginative twist the
series had to offer. The “39″ (for 1939, the year the original movie
came out) on a wooden heart attached to one of the fence posts might
have meant so much more in a well thought out story. I was expecting
something like last years phenomenal “Lost Room” but instead got “Flash
Gordon” on a dull acid trip. That may be a bit harsh, but even at the
beginning I couldn’t help but think “Are they on Mongo or the O.Z.?”
Later I found out most of the sets used were actually from “Flash
Gordon.” Go me. I would go into detail about the ending, but nothing
really happened. It ended just like this review except for the cute
munchkin refrence I threw in out of nowhere. “Tinman” gets 5 munchkins
out of 10.

Nicholas [5/10]

I’ve been looking forward to the sci-fi channel’s Tin Man Series for many many months, and now that it’s over all i can say is…meh. No matter how much I want to love it, it just doesn’t hold up to it’s predecessors The Wizard of Oz, or Return to Oz. However, they were real movies and not a 6 hour miniseries so maybe it’s not fair to compare them.

The series got three things right. Casting Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, and the series’ title, Tin Man. Though, a show titled Tin Man should really invest more in the Tin Man character somehow. I mean, Glitch was a way better character than the Tin Man, but then I hope we can all agree that any character Alan Cumming plays is going to be pitch perfect.

I found myself making fun of Tin Man, more than just sitting and enjoying it. There was too much uninteresting/unnecessary dialogue and cheesy metaphors (telling the Tin Man to have a heart…seriously, once was enough) and if I had a nickel for every time D.G. and Queen Mom told Az she wasn’t their daughter/sister. Ugh

The toto characters transition from dog to cantankerous, conniving old black man was continuously fun, especially at the end when he transformed in front of the befuddled guards and gave them the old one two. In fact all of the special effects were well done and the old witch was especially scary.

But what was up with that ending? Basking in the sun may have had a more profound effect if the land had been in total darkness for a year or more, but it was only dark for a few minutes. It was like, oops, we’re out of money, time to end abruptly. It may have only seemed that way since SciFi started touting the next run of Tin Man before the credits even rolled. Cmon SciFi, let us enjoy thy lackluster ending before whoring your products next time please.

In tiny conclusion of my tiny Tin Man review, the series is definitely watchable, but I definitely wouldn’t buy the DVD/Blu-ray or watch it again…ever.

Bunnyfear [5/10]

I gotta be honest that I didn’t like the idea of Tin Man at all. Yes, I am one of those people who fondly recall watching/reading Wizard of Oz growing up and therefore if you screw with something I love then you had better do it right. Tin Man didn’t at all. There was of course many things that I liked such as I liked casting all around. Zooey Deschanel is love and Richard Dreyfuss was just very fun to see in his role. I am a lover of Alan Cumming despite his somewhat questionable body of work (Son of Mask) so I’m always delighted to see him and he was great as Glitch. Honestly the miniseries shouldve been called Glitch as his character was far more interesting. I liked some of the special effects and felt at times they did well with there budget. Also I liked the evil witch inhabiting her sister but I didn’t like the practical magic-esque ending with sisters taking hands and casting out the evil. Bah! Once again it must be said that the fact that the Tin Man was barely mentioned in the miniseries made the name ridiculous. Also I gotta say I hated the search for mom in many ways. Perhaps I’m a jaded non O-Z’er (I cringed every time they called it “The O.Z.” I cringed, shook my fist, and wanted to kill whoever came up with that moniker.) but why did she all of a sudden want to go through hell for a mother she never knew? All of a sudden she had these deep connections to people she didn’t know. I would’ve liked if she was also trying to find a way to repair her parents that she spent her life with. I know they were just robots but still its odd that she so quickly didn’t care about them. Also Why Toto gotta die huh? One black man in the entire movie and he’s a dog and he gotta die huh? huh? Can a brother get a non-dog /non-dying role in Tin Man? I respect what they tried to do with the updating of the story and I even liked the original Dorothy playing a part but overall the miniseries had more problems than not. I wanted so much more out of it. Sci Fi isn’t known for great original movies but they had such a good opportunity with this and yet they are so fail. It wasn’t horrible. It held my interest for the most part but I’m glad I watched it online as compared to live because the pause button was most definitely my friend. So overall it gets a 5/10 as Tin Man is just average and I don’t wanna follow it down the yellow brick road ever again.

15/30. We all rated it exactly the same so if Tin Man simply wanted to achieve average then mission accomplished

Bunnyfear 1/10 for hotties

Same as everyone I watched Prison Break the first season and thought it had something interesting to offer and at the least it gave us Wentworth Miller in a regular TV role. Of course I would’ve been more happy to see him as the devil on Joan of Arcadia ( durn you CBS for cancelling it just because oldies liked it ) but I’d take him anywhere where he can show off his versatile acting skills and smoldering good looks. The thing is that Prison Break is so horrible that not even the hotness of Wentworth makes it tolerable. The reason I hate Prison Break is the same reason I hate Lost. It’s nothing but false drama, pointless buildup, and mysteries that are never answered satisfyingly. I watched these episodes despite knowing nothing about the current season and perhaps that’s why I didn’t find them at all interesting. Micheal was planning a fake fight to break out this Whistler guy. His brother was working to get his kid back. That guy from Invasion got out of prison and then had some sort of druggie break down. This show sucks and I hate you if you watch it. Monday at 8/7 central? There’s way better things out there people and you’re a horrible person if you chose Prison Break over them.

Matthew 3/10 for effort

Prison Break. Ahhh yes, one of these days I will break out, but the
cheesy testosterone driven drama keeps me locked up every Monday
night. I’ve watched this ridiculous mess from the very first episode
and squealed with delight during the first nine episodes or so, but it’s
been downhill from there. Season two was so bad I almost stopped
watching. It was one over the top cliffhanger after another but at the
very end, Michael ended up in Soma, a hardcore prison in Panama. I
believe it was necessary for us to go back to prison if Prison Break was
ever going to work again. Hey it’s working for My Name is Earl, in my
opinion, so why not? It has been a lot more interesting this season,
and as soon as I’m satisfied that this show isn’t going anywhere ever, I
will stop watching and maybe this fish out of water will finally die.
This past week, in the two hour PB special (!), we went through the
motions again as Michael finally finds out that Sarah is dead and blames
Whistler as a diversion to help them prison break, if I can use “prison
break” as a verb. There were some genuinely interesting moments in the
two hours and the cliff hanger left me wanting to see what happens
tonight, but as far as I’m concerned it might as well be a guilty
pleasure like Passions. I’m ashamed to tell you I watch it, I’m ashamed
to write about it and I’m ashamed I didn’t turn it off a year ago or
more. So that being said, I’m going to watch it again, but I’m not
going to like it.

Last week’s prison break was a “we didn’t get to air last weeks episode so, umm, here’s a 2 hour special presentation!” I swear, i believed the “special presentation” line only the first 5 or 6 times I heard it. What can i say about prison break. It’s definitely a love-hate relationship. I think there have been some really bad decisions made as far as plot points, especially in the second season (can’t believe i stuck through that) but this season and particularly these two episodes offer some of the best writing of this series.
I liked that the daytime prison escape was foiled. There’s no way they could have pulled that off and made it seem real and It would have been way too convenient. I hope they include Bellick and the basketball playing kid in the next escape and I bet T-Bag’s definitely going to be a part, either in hindering or helping (probably both) the escape.
I’m curious what will become of Bellick. Surely he isn’t meant to be a weak, blubbering mess left to rot in a Panama prison. I hope he’ll escape with Michael & Whistler and maybe sacrifice his life so the other’s can escape in repentance for his sins. Also, including Lachero in the escape was a very surprising and welcome twist. This was one of the best decision in the history of this show. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

11/30. Ouch! That has got to be lowest rating ever. It’s time for an execution.

Matthew [8/10]

Oh “Kid Nation”. I have to admit that not only is “Kid Nation” one of my favorite guilty pleasures, it must be one of the greatest reality shows ever created. This episode in which our favorite kids on television had to deal with the garbage problem in Bonanza City, was not one of the best, but some of the drama we got from Taylor, the beauty
queen we love to hate, was worth kicking in my television set. Her vocabulary, consisting of not much more than “No”, “I don’t”, “world peace” and “George Bush” is enough to make my mouth drop open. Sure she’s young and she’s got plenty of time to grow up, but can’t you see where this is going? A panama city license plate and crabs may be in
her hopefully not near future. I hate that I missed seeing my favorite little Jewish guy in this episode. He has the best random one-liners on television but judging from next weeks preview he may be back in full swing. Here’s to hopin’! This discussion of mine may be shorter than Taylor’s work ethic, but what else can you say about a reality show where kids run an old west town? I grant this episode 8 2lb gold stars out of 10.

Bunnyfear [2/10]

This was the first episode I’ve ever watched of this show. The concept annoyed me more than interested me so it wasn’t hard to skip. In order to watch the show you need to understand a few things about the show and how it works. Basically kids live in an old west town. Have classes (upper, labor, etc). They have challenges which help the kids receive something they need or want. They also award a gold star to a standout kid. This episode started with a recap of the last show which saw the ousting of two city council members one of which is a beauty queen that apparently isn’t the hardest worker. Meh. Let me be honest in saying this show wasn’t as bad as it could be but still watching it felt entirely wrong. Watching children go through trials and tribulations… even the simplest ones seems highly inappropriate. Kid Nation seems like exploitation in a ruthless way. Can anyone truly take glee in the idea of Taylor one day getting her comeuppance? At the end of the day the good guys and bad guys are all kids that have no idea about themselves or this world so let them be. Who is exactly like they were when they were 8? If I had absolutely no other options then I would watch Kid Nation but only to hope to see kids like DK. He was obviously a standout in this episode who truly earned the gold star 20k prize. He’s the kind of kid that makes you think there is hope for the future of this world. But regardless of DK then you still worry because the kids truly debated over an environment killing vehicle as compared to fruits/veggies they desperately needed. That thought is more worrying and frustrating. At the end of the day I don’t like this show because I feel it hurts more than it helps however I do hope each of the children come out the better for it. After all..they are the future….. of reality TV. Temptation kid nation? I’m sure it’ll be on Fox soon.

Nicholas [9/10]

I’m a fan of Kid Nation mostly because I would have loved the opportunity to do this as a kid. Heck, I’d do it now; Adult Nation anyone? Fox? CBS? TLC? What? it’s already been done and it’s called Survivor? What?! Survivor’s still on the air? okay, sorry, on with the review. This week on Trash Nation the kids have to deal with the massive amounts of trash piling up in Bonanza City. Taylor & her follower Layla were among those chosen to haul the trash past city limits and bury it in the desert. Says Taylor, “We’re both beauty queens, we don’t go around scoopin up trash and burying it.” I have to say, she makes a great antagonist and I definitely love to hate her. Of course level-headed DK from Illinois helped to bring everyone together and get the job done…throughout the entire episode. He definitely deserved the gold star and was on the edge of my seat when he almost went home before receiving it. Though I don’t know how $20,000 is going to put him and his 4 siblings through college. 2-year community college here they come! Thanks Kid Nation! I don’t know where they found these kids, but they are smarter than most of the adults I know. I definitely couldn’t have kept up with them when I was there age. All in all, it was a really good episode. It had me yelling at Taylor, and routing for DK to stay; it was definitely one of my favorite episodes so far.

So all in all 19/30. It seems Kid Nation is a true favorite with some and still a miss with others but please take the time to see then love it or hate it. There is no middle ground here and THAT is typically the sign of an interesting TV show.

This week is Grey’s Anatomy “The heart of the matter”

Read our reviews, after the jump…

Matthew 6/10

What can I say about a show I’ve seen maybe four times before tonight but not recently. I really have no idea what’s been going on and despite feeling like I needed a girlfriend beside me to make watching “Dr. Chickfest” legit, it was a pretty fun ride. The words of Dr. Meredith Grey at the beginning were a bit lost on me because I was dreaming about how I wish it were “House” but once it got started I was pretty interested. I have two programs recording during Grey’s but I did get to watch it on ABC’s website using the ABC Full Episode Player. There could be an entire blog about the piece of crap that is. I could never get it out of “mini mode” into full screen so I watched the entire episode in full scale tiny. It was pretty annoying. Also the “limited commercial interruptions” came every commercial break in the form of a tiny commercial for garnier nutrisse products followed by flash interaction with each product. When your 30 seconds is up you are then allowed to continue the rest of the episode. Thank you ABC for allowing me to continue back to mini-Greys. Okay so back to “Greys Anatomy”. It was a decent episode with a few great laughs from old intern Norman (Richard from “Gilmore Girls” looks so old!) and my favorite line of the night came from Izzy: “…penmanship saves lives.” I thought the story with the chief’s niece was a bit over dramatic and unimportant while waiting for Izzy and Kelly to meet in the cafeteria and throw down, but I’m sure it touched all your girly hearts so who am i? I give this episode 6 Stars Hollows out of 10.

Nicholas [5/10]

I’ve been watching Grey’s since the beginning, but this season, before the first episode even aired, i canceled my series recording and started watching Supernatural instead. I think it was that after the whole fiasco with Isaiah W. and TR Knight last year, after by gone’s should have been by gone’s, and everyone had forgiven him (okay, apparently not everyone), he was still let go. eh well, on with my review.

This episode of grey’s was just a continuation of previously unfinished storylines, so it’s not really fair to say nothing’s happening. I guess I was just hoping that something new was happening. George, Izzy, and Callie were still in a tryst, & McDreamy, Meredith, and Lexie were still…well, in their tryst as well. I did find old intern a little endearing, but annoying, and the cancer story line really got to me. *manly voice* I didn’t cry or nothing, but still, it was moving. The lunchroom scene was pretty funny, but it definitely could have been funnier. It just seemed kind of sad. also about Derek wanting 2.5 kids, a wife and a white picket fence, he should definitely look for someone a bit older than Meredith, or at least someone who’s at the same point in life that he is, and one who’s not focused on beginning their medical career. I had a lot of trouble writing this review. I just can’t care about this show anymore. I definitely won’t be watching grey’s this season unless something huge happens soon.

Bunnyfear [8/10]

As the girl in twoguysagirlandablog.tv then I suppose it would be obvious that I would dig the chick shows more than the guys. Honestly this isn’t as true as the stereotype would suggest but in this show’s case it’s apt. Though I can respect all the naysayers against Grey’s Anatomy I.Don’t.Care. I love to hate this show. Well not hate but this show puts me through an emotional ringer every week and yet I always tune in. Yes I will tune into the show thats ,I admit it, a total soap opera made slightly respectable by the seriousness of the surgeries. I don’t care what you say because I love this show. This season we’ve found Meredith and Derek ending again, A George and Izzy relationship finally coming to fruition with his declaration of love, Christina moving on from the loss of Burke, The chief working to make his marriage work, Callie being uncharacteristically weak and Bailey finding her footing after having the ground yanked from beneath her feet. After all that happened last season this year serves as a big year for Grey’s Anatomy to prove it deserved the attention it got outside the drama. This was a year for Shonda Rhimes to evolve her show just a bit further and for the show to find humor in itself despite the tragedy that was happening all around. I can’t say that its proven itself completely yet but I feel its off to a good start. This episode was sad yet good. Seems like Derek and Meredith might be over for good ( at least for a while). It also seems that things are only going to get worse for Izzy and George until it gets better. I’m sad to see that the chief’s marriage may finally be over but I think this will open up new options for his storyline. Of course this episode brought both the humor with the lunchroom scene and the pain with Callie standing in the rain. (btw yay on them expanding her character) And that’s what I love about this show. I will laugh and I will cry. Like many chicks, I feel a great connection to this show. This is the new SATC because we see ourselves in each of the characters. I love that no one is quite settled because that is life. I love Ellen Pompeo so much in this role and will cry if she ever George Clooneys out of it and oh so much love for Katherine Heigl and my God who knew that Patrick Dempsey didn’t need to buy my love because he was so dreamy? Oh and yay on the next preview with Ava. I can’t wait to see her back again. Oh and wow can Bailey get any more awesome? And ya know what? I love Meredith’s sister added to the mix. It’s such a great inclusion and…and…and..Oh Wow I love this show!!! Gosh I’m incoherently gushing aren’t I? I can’t think of a bad thing to say about this show. Its…just…good. Seriously. no. SERIOUSLY.

Overall 19/30. The overall score could be better but it’s definitely a show to keep watching. Grey’s Anatomy airs 9/8c on ABC
