The list does Bernie Mac justice for all the great roles he’s given us. It’s a shame they couldn’t list his role in the Bernie Mac Show twice because it was a truly funny show. To know he also worked behind the scenes just goes to show what a mutli-talented man he was. Netflix the show or pick up a DVD set and you’ll definitely agree. My favorite ep was the season two episode titled “Keep it on the Short Grass” which included a cameo from Matt Damon.

Although we are a TV blog ever so often the topic lines are skewed just because we want them to be skewed. When this happens we comment on items that occur outside the TV realm. Today the topic is Entertainment Weekly.

I have loved Entertainment Weekly for many a year. I have a stockpile of issues which I’ve had longer than 3 pets. The magazine is a gem and rarely causes a bad reaction. Of course there are moments when I dislike them. Lisa Schwarzbaum and Owen Gleiberman’s unfavorable reviews of a favorite movie sometimes cause a twinge of annoyance but over all I love EW. Some might even tell you that I once kissed a cover many times over because I was so happy to receive the issue early. Although I can not confirm that ridiculous tale, I can very much attest to the love behind such an action. EW in the past year or so started a habit of making lists. Sometimes they are decently written. Ever so often you feel they only got it half right. They write the list, post it on their website/In their magazine then many people either agree or disagree. Typically regardless of the choices on the list you can understand the basis for list inclusion. However today while randomly reading their website I found this list….

http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20174698,00.html

Which has really pissed me off. I actually welcome a list that would mention bad dialogue because I know I’ve noticed quite a few duds during my cinephile years but WHAT THE FUCK is that list? It just reads like a pissed off man or woman who hates the idea of a romance/romantic comedy and therefore bashes any language that involves the slightest bit of emotion. OMG is EW now being ran by 5 year olds? Will the next list be “Top gayest phrases said by cootie carriers”? Out of the 15 “nominees” 10 were lines uttered in correlation to a relationship. OMG WHO BROKE YOUR HEARTS EW? Romantic Comedies and Romances will always have a place in cinema. The language and phrases are welcome by many who happily watch Julia Roberts fall in love, Meg Ryan wrinkle her nose, and Some dashing brit save the day again and again. So screw you EW! I’m sure that person is sorry they didn’t return your calls! They’re just not that into you! Neither am I now.
