Quick Hits: Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant
I suppose it’s not odd to say that a reality show made me feel good about myself. After all I think most can admit that part of reality TV viewing fun is to witness the insanity of others. Who hasn’t turned off Flavor of Love then happily smiled to themselves while realizing that despite the man locked in your home-made dungeon you really aren’t that weird? Well not me but I hear other people do. The previous series saw Scott Baio 45 and working towards maturing into a relationship with a woman he felt he loved but only sans commitment. The season ended after 8 weeks of life coaching and Scott proposing to his girlfriend Renee. Shortly after the proposal she revealed the pregnancy. This season sees Scott coming to grip with the idea of not just including a wife in his life but also a child. Scott confronts the ideas of losing himself to adulthood each show. A recent episode saw him returning to his hometown Brooklyn. He visited family and friends with the tune of Phil Collins’ “Take me home” in his head. The roots return was aimed towards helping him realize how he could raise a child. This knowledge quest saw him visiting childhood friends and locations. Also visiting a church to speak to a nun and getting a sandwich named after himself. In the end he realized the best way to raise his daughter is to keep his wife close. It all seems very cheesy but I totally relate to a big kid growing up just a little too late in life. If you’re a Gen X or Y then you’ll probably relate to his adventures in adulthood as well. What I like about Scott Baio is 46 and pregnant is that it actually feels like reality television or at least perhaps what reality television could aspire to be. It is humans in real situations dealing with life the best way they know how while evolving and learning more about themselves. Sure that seems a a bit heady to attrribute a show starring Chachi but definitely not Charles. He can handle being on the best reality television show on air.
