Note: We do not participate or condone illegal downloading. This post is part of a series of post on how to watch free online TV shows, and represents just one of many ways to watch TV online for free.

Everyone wants to know where they can download free online tv shows. You can see many tv shows on network web sites (fox.com, abc.com, etc), or see some full episodes on youtube before they’re taken down for copyright infringement. There are also sites like Joox that have problems with shows being taken down. Hulu will be open to the public in March ’08, but they don’t have every tv show, and they have those pesky ads.

The best way I know to download free online tv shows is to join private torrent download sites. A private torrent site is a torrent site that requires you to be invited by someone before you can become a member. They are a reliable source of everything [until the site gets taken down by the powers that be - It's rare, but it happens (R.I.P. Oink)]. By reliable I mean the torrent files are uploaded by members & are strictly regulated by members. This means you can trust that the files are clean (virus free) and the file will actually be what you downloaded. Before you join a torrent site, you must be aware that you will be entering into the pirate life. There’s no turning back once you journey through that rabbit hole. It is Illegal, and you must be prepared to face any and all consequences. Also, you must be a responsible torrent site member and give as much as you get [don't be a torrent leech]

If you’re interested, here are some ways you can get your foot in the door of the torrent world and sail your own downloadable pirate ship. Arrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhh. (okay, sorry about the pirate references)

Join Through Other Torrent Sites
If your looking for TV torrents, don’t concentrate on just joining a tv torrent site. There are movie torrent sites, music torrent sites, software torrent sites, and torrent sites that are combinations of all of the above. The fact is, if you get invited into one, you will [eventually] have access to all. Most torrent sites have a forum thread labeled invites where members give out extra invites to (hopefully) responsible members of that torrent site. So if your already a member of say a music torrent site, look through the forums and see if you can get an invite to a tv torrent site. If your not already a member of a torrent site, never fear, there are some other options available.

Join Through A Friend
Everyone has that friend (or friends). You know, the one that is web savvy, and has the entire Adobe Creative Suite, more mp3 music files than they could possibly listen to within a decade, and an entire collection of hundreds or thousands of burned dvd’s (or a hard drive full of them). That person is probably either a member, or very close to a member of a private torrent download site. If you know this friend well enough, talk to him/her about it. If this friend believes you are trustworthy and knows you well enough, you can talk to them about where they get their goodies. If he/she is a member of a torrent site, you’re pretty much home free. Ask if they have any extra invites (note: invites are scarce these days due to the torrent crackdown of 2007) and let them know you will be a responsible torrent member and adhere to all the rules (whatever they may be). If you don’t get in through that friend, don’t get frustrated, just ask all of your internet savvy friends. One of them is bound to be a member of a torrent site.
If you strike out with your friends and aquaintances, there’s one more port in the torrent sea that I would sail to if I were looking to join private torrent download sites.

Join Through An Invitation Web Site
Sites like InviteShare.com allow you to sign up for invite only websites. You can sign up to invite share and then sign up for individual sites listed in there directory. Members of the invite only sites drop by and randomly invite strangers with their extra invites they may have leftover. This method involves playing the waiting game. Mostly because there are few torrent site members who will randomly invite strangers, and very few torrent sites that allow such activity. Most torrent sites would ban the inviter and invitee without question if they were caught. I browsed through InviteShare’s 70+ websites and saw only 2 torrent sites. There may have been more, but I’m not familiar with them. Out of the two I did see, one was a TV torrent site, and one was a various item torrent site (music/movies/apps).

Lastly, don’t join the pirate life just because you’re a cheap b@$#@&*. If you can afford it, then purchase it legally. There’s no reason to go through this life taking, taking, taking and never giving anything back. It’s just asking for bad karma whether you believe in it or not. Lecturing aside, I do hope this information has been useful for your quest of watching free online tv shows.
