Quick Hits: Venture Bros Season Finale 0

Aug25

Venture Bros. is  a weird show. It started off as a parody of the old Johny Quest show, and since then it’s grown in not only one of Adult Swim’s most popular shows, but also one chock full of mythology that at time almost reaches level of something like Lost.

Season 3 just ended last night(although the final episode has been online since early last week) and episode was a mixed bag.  Details, and a bunch of spoilers after the cut.

The show picks up almost immediately right after last week episode, with the Hank, Dr. Venture, Dean, and Brock all in LAPD custody and accused of the murder of Jean LeTueur. Their captivity doesn’t last long, as they’re busted out by The Cleaner, who as per the show, looks almost like an exactly replica of Mr. Clean. Escaping the police, we find that The Cleaner was sent by Molotov Cocktease.

Their meeting is interrupted by The Monarch, who demands that Dr. Venture turns himself in, or he’ll destroy H.E.L.P.eR.  Brock takes control of the situation and sets up a meeting with both The Monarch and O.S.I, who have been hunting Brock for the last few episodes.

Monarch suspects that he is being set up, and plants a bomb on H.E.L.P.eR, just in case. Before long Brock manages to orchestrate a battle between the Monarch and O.S.I’s troops, and soon they’re joined by Captain Hatred and a battalion of Hank and Dean’s clones, which brings the battle to a halt. Brock rushes out to surrender, but finds out that the O.S.I wasn’t really hunting him down, merely making sure that everything was okay with him, as he was apparently set up. Because of this, Brock ends up quitting not only the O.S.I, but also his bodyguard duties to the Venture family.

But most shocking of all was the death of Henchman 24. “Why did you buckle up?” actually manages to be quite a sad line, especially considering it’s being uttered by a rotund nerd in a bee’s outfit.

The show ends with the reveal of Molotov Cocktease and her Blackhearts. It was them that set up Brock to get rid of the competition in the assassin game. The last scene is that of Hunter Gathers toasting Brock.

So where does the show go from here?

One of this season’s biggest theme was family, as how Brock actually believes the Ventures to be his family, so obviously him deserting them is supposed to be a shock, but I don’t think it’ll last. More than likely he’ll probably protect them from the distance.

More interesting though is what happens to Henchman 21. 21 and 24 have been a team since the very first episode, so I can see him taking the lost quite heavily. Perhaps he goes on to become a great villain because of this?

And also, we have several unresolved issues;

Brock doesn’t know he has a son, nor do we know who the mother is.

For that, we still aren’t quite sure who Hank and Dean, or Rusty’s mother is and what happened to them.

What about the ORB? It’s been show how powerful it is, but it really didn’t come into play.
