Chuck: The best new show of the Fall season. 2
This time of year is very familiar. All the new fall shows have debuted. You’ve had the opportunity to watch at least one episode of each new offering. Some you liked from the start, some you gave another chance for various reasons, and some you very rightfully hated before they debuted (see:caveman like a mofo). However, now is the time for cuts. Now is the time to say this is a show I will stick with through the good and the bad or at least until the shark is jumped. My pick for best new fall show is Chuck.
Its well written, interesting, and soundly acted. My God what a great cast eh? No one ever gives three cheers for the people who put together great casts and I won’t cheer three times here but they’re definitely getting 2 and a 1/2 cheers from me. The sister loses you half a cheer. I’m not feeling Sarah Lancaster in this role. It’s a great character but she brings such a generic feel to the role that I’m bored most times she’s on screen. Zachary Levi however is perfection–from each facial expression to the well timed stammers. He brings believability to each scene and that is saying something. When in the first episode Chuck stood up and said he was going home you could imagine another actor not making that moment ring true. After all the person standing up to a CIA and NSA agent was just a tech support jockey at a local electronics store however Zachary Levi‘s stance, tone , and eye contact made it believable. In other words folks the guy can act. Adam Baldwin is also well used in this role. Possibly the best casting of the lot and I can’t imagine any other actor bringing what he does to the table. If the role of John Casey wasn’t written for him then it surely should have been. Rounding out our main trio is Yvonne Strahovski who is gorgeous yet adorable. Her looks are obviously needed in this role. After all there are no women spies who aren’t hot (mmm Valerie Plame eh boys?) but she also brings a humor that is required in this show. Now that I’ve loved all over the cast I can now talk about the great writing. Its pitch perfect. No one is overly smooth nor under prepared. The situation which is obviously far fetched seems real in that if we had to imagine that one nice tech guy from Best Buy having to save the world then he’d probably behave similar to our Chuck. The show also includes a possible budding romance between Chuck and Yvonne Strahovski‘s character Sarah. This is because America demands it. Name one show on TV that doesn’t have this theme somewhere in the show. We have comic relief with Chuck’s job and his best friend Morgan played Joshua Gomez. I have a hot/cold relationship with Morgan. He’s an amalgamation of the most boring geek stereotypes but I can not lie that he hasn’t made me laugh a few times. Still I hope somehow they evolve the character and quick. Chuck is a slick show that seeks to keep you interested in an Alias meets I-Spy sort’ve way and I think it does it very well. Chuck airs on NBC Monday’s at 8/7 central but if you’re busy with say loving on Alyson Hannigan then at least take the time to set your tivo, vcr, beta max or check it out at NBC’s online video rewind.

I totally agree with you. Chuck is where it’s at.
Cheers! I totally agree with you agreeing with me.
