My Forty Hour TV Week: A Retrospective 1

Oct30

TV ZOMBIELast week, I set out to watch 40 hours of television. I watched a lot of good shows (HIMYM…), and a lot of bad shows(Cavemen…). I pretty much watched tv before and after work every day and averaged about 6 hours a day.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly until Thursday when I experienced two phenomenon’s I will call The Pushing Daisies effect, and the Gossip Girl effect. I woke up bright and early Thursday morning and a strange yet familiar voice was narrating my every move. It began with “At this point in his life, Nicholas was 28 years, 47 weeks, 4 days, 12 hours…). Then throughout the day I kept trying to turn every day situations into dramatic over-the-top life altering decisions. (I know, right?) But there were good effects as well. My 40 hour TV week actually made me smarter. Okay, I’m still waiting on those test results.
I really hate to admit it, but I really liked a few shows I thought would be horrendous. Dirty Sexy Money had some really bad dialogue, but Peter Krauss (from Six Feet Under) may save this show, and there were some really good lessons on money. It turns out there really are some reasons Gossip Girl is not the worst show in the world, but Cavemen and Carpoolers were horrible. I was really looking forward to Phenomenon, but the first episode really failed to impress. It was sooo quiet on the set it was kind of uncomfortable, and what was Ross the intern doing on on this show? He was however, the most memorable part of the hour. The Next Great American Rock Band was another show I was dreading, mostly because it was 2 hours long. There were a lot of really good bands. A few I didn’t care for, but i’ll definitely be watching it again this week.
Looking back, I really don’t care to watch that much TV in a week ever again. It was pretty exhausting to get up so early and go to bed so late every single day and I just didn’t like being a TV zombie. I really can’t wait to get back to my regular 18 hourish a week schedule. I don’t have much of a life, but I felt like I was definitely wasting it just sitting there in front of the tube. Maybe I should get a laptop. I’m curious, how much TV do you guys watch in a week?

Wow. I can’t believe you watched so much TV. I’m so excited you liked Gossip Girl just a wee bit. I keep trying to give Carpoolers a chance…call it the fat kid from stand by me effect…because I like him so much that I want him to do well but I might give it up after this week.
